Household Recycling Centres

Veolia UK _ Shropshire HWRC

Household Recycling Centres

Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) offer convenient collection points for recyclable materials at locations across Shropshire. Our HRCs provide recycling facilities for a much wider range of materials than can be collected at the kerbside, helping residents to recycle more and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Whether you are having a clear out, disposing of bulky items or simply want to recycle materials not collected from your doorstop, your local HRC is here to help. All sites are free to use for Shropshire residents and are staffed by a friendly team who are on hand to help you make the most of the facilities available.

Plan Your Visit

Clothing: For your safety, please ensure you wear closed toe shoes or boots when visiting. Sandles and open toe footwear are not permitted on site. We also strongly advise wearing gloves when handling waste materials.

Arriving on Site: The facility only accepts waste delivered by vehicle. Please ensure your load is secure before travelling to site.

Sorting Your Recycling: To help keep your visit efficient, please sort your recycling before you arrive. Our site map below can help you plan where to take each material.

Eligibility: Our centres are open to Shropshire residents disposing of household waste only. Proof of address may be required upon entry.

Children and Pets: Please ensure that children and pets remain inside the vehicle at all times whilst on site.

Asbestos

If you want to take small quantities of asbestos to a HRC you must speak to a site attendant at one of our recycling centres, they will provide you with wrapping materials free of charge. Please don't just turn up with the asbestos. They will also give you a time that is convenient to bring the asbestos to site.

When wrapping the asbestos:

  • Wear a dust mask and overalls
  • Keep sheets intact - never break them up
  • Wrap the asbestos in the strong plastic provided and seal with tape
  • Take it to the HRC and place in the clearly marked red skips

We'll only accept small quantities of cement-bonded asbestos, eg from corrugated garage roods. If you have large quantities of asbestos, or asbestos from a commercial building such as a farm, you must hire a professional contractor to deal with it.

Trade Waste

Trade waste cannot legally be accepted at any of the household recycling centres. Examples of business or trade waste include:

  • Waste from a builder or trades person carrying out work on a house they do not live in.
  • Waste from a landlord of a property.
  • Someone offering to clear waste from a house that is not their own.

Vans and Trailers

Vans and vehicles with trailers are now required to book a slot before visiting their local Household Recycling Centre. Booking takes a few minutes on the council's website.

Trailers with a load area of 2.4m long internally or 3m² (towed by any compliant vehicle) can only be used to deposit compostable garden waste between 9am and 11am, Monday to Friday. They can't be used to transport any other waste to the recycling centre. Trailers which are deemed too large by site attendants on the grounds of saftey may still be turned away irrespective of a booking.
